Otis Day and the Knights revisited

Apparently DeWayne Jessie emerged from 19xx's Animal House with the rights to Otis Day and the Knights, the party band seen in the toga party and Dexter Lake Club scenes. Or perhaps Fox simply forgot to trademark the fictional band name back in those less merchandising-minded days.

This 19xx LP featured five 1962-era frat rock classics on one side (revisiting Shout! and Shama Lama Ding Dong from the movie), and a set of four contemporary funk tunes on the flip. The whole was produced by George Clinton. Bizarrely, the period songs have less zip and crackle than the Knights tracks on the Animal House soundtrack, and the arrangements and production of the funk cuts resemble a 20-minute version of Clinton's theme song for the Tracey Ullman TV program.

I present it here on the theory that some Animal House fan somewhere has been waiting 25 years for more frat party magic from Otis.

About this blog...

Obviously, the posts below are outlines only. I wanted to stake my claim to the title of this blog, figure out what I want to say about each collection, get nice clean cover art and figure out the fastest and most reliable file host. It might take a few weeks before this is fully online.

In the meantime, I'd appreciate any suggestions or contributions from movies whose music has been orphaned, or any likeminded blogs who would like a link here to their posts on similar subjects.
